Description
Ancestral tablet designed for a calm, lasting place at home — are you looking for something meaningful, but not overly traditional?
This Chinese spirit tablet was created to bridge cultural heritage and modern living.
The IN MEMORY · Lingde ancestral tablet is inspired by Buddhist sculpture and East Asian architecture, then refined into a form that fits naturally into contemporary spaces.
It is made to hold memory quietly — a place where presence remains, even after time has passed.
Ancestral Tablet Inspired by Buddhist Form
The design draws from a Southern Song Dynasty gilded bronze Buddha statue.
Two symbolic elements are reinterpreted:
1. Ushnisha (肉髻相)
The rounded spiral top is inspired by the Buddha’s cranial protuberance.
In Buddhist tradition, this represents wisdom and enlightenment.
Each carved layer is shaped to echo that idea — not literally, but structurally.
2. Urna (白毫相)
A central inlay made of red agate is placed near the top.
This detail references the luminous mark between the Buddha’s eyebrows.
It symbolizes clarity — a way of “seeing” beyond the surface.
As a result, the tablet carries a quiet sense of focus and stillness.
Material & Craftsmanship
- Burmese teak wood — dense, durable, naturally aged texture
- Red agate inlay — warm tone, soft light reflection
- Hand-finished surface — subtle variation in each piece
Each ancestral tablet is handcrafted.
Because of this, no two pieces are exactly the same.
The material was selected not only for durability, but for how it ages over time.
Design Structure of This Chinese Spirit Tablet
Heaven and Earth Form
The structure follows a traditional concept:
- Rounded top → Heaven
- Square base → Earth
This balance creates a grounded and stable visual presence.
Gemstone as Focal Point
The red agate is placed at the top center.
It draws the eye naturally, without overwhelming the form.
The effect is subtle — but intentional.
Minimal but Symbolic
The design avoids heavy ornamentation.
Instead, meaning is carried through proportion and material.
This makes the piece suitable for both traditional and modern interiors.
What “Lingde” Means
The name Lingde (灵德) can be understood as:
- Ling (灵) — presence, spirit, awareness
- De (德) — virtue, continuity, moral legacy
Together, it reflects remembrance that continues through time.
Not just memory — but something carried forward.
Design Language (With Original Chinese Lines)
We kept several original lines and translated them into clear English:
有灵则安
Where presence remains, there is peace.
毫光开慧眼
A small light can open clarity.
灵德寄归心
What is remembered finds its place to return.
